KEN BROWN AT THE SCOTTISH OPEN
American golf courses such as Pebble Beach or Cypress Point stand out as some of the world's most naturally pretty courses, but I don't think there is anywhere quite like Loch Lomond.

This little peninsula that sticks out into the beautiful Loch is a truly magnificent setting to play golf at.

Even if there is a pitter-patter of rain it still looks lovely.

Fortunately we have been blessed with great conditions so far, which hasn't always been the case in previous years - this place seems to have its own little micro climate that causes the weather to change at anytime!

Some say that it isn't the best preparation for the Open Championship, which takes place next week at Carnoustie, as the course here is not a Links.

But it has a lot of plus points which really aid players with their Open preparation.

They don't have far to travel, they are playing on an excellent course and can really hone their game in superb practise facilities.

World number three Phil Mickelson enjoyed an excellent start to the tournament and I've always thought that never has a golf course suited him better than this one.

He has put in some reasonable performances here without ever looking like winning which has surprised me.

He has endured some really tough courses in America recently, especially at the US Open at Oakmont, so it's nice for him to come here and attack and play his natural game.

Looking ahead to The Open at Carnoustie, as always it's impossible to look much further than Tiger Woods adding to his 12 Major triumphs.

But if you are looking for a player who could rise from nowhere, like Paul Lawrie did to lift the Claret Jug in 1999, I would say South Africa's Richard Sterne.

Enjoy the action,

Ken
